How to double your prices and package them too!

Session outline:

Packaging – it’s a common sore point for professionals. How do you package your services? How do you know which features should go in which package? And not only that – how do you price them, and still be profitable?

The sad truth is, the majority of content creators, copywriters, and other professionals, are massively undercharging their work. Packaging is complex, BUT once you understand a simple framework to do it well – and profitably – you can start to spend less time stressing over proposals that lose you money, and spend more time being confident in your offerings.

Session takeouts:

  • Good, Better, Best – why it’s the BEST model to use
  • How to find out your customer’s willingness to pay
  • How to price your packages to be DOUBLY profitable
  • Mastering a profit-based mindset
  • Value-based pricing: why it’s the best thing for your business (and why you should ditch the hourly rate!)

About Courtney:

Courtney Rogers is an award-winning pricing expert based in Brisbane, Australia. Her professional background is in marketing and sales, and she also has prior studies in accounting and psychology. She uses her passion for helping women in business, her adept skills as a marketer, and her love of behavioural sciences, to help business owners grow a profitable business with confidence.

Woeful website structures: How to lose clients and alienate people

Session outline:

Everything you secretly already know about website structures…. but struggle to convince clients and web designers.  Matt will cover the most common website structure mistakes — and the dead-simple principles you can use to fix them.

Plus you’ll learn content modelling, which is a genius technique for bridging high-level website structures and the nitty gritty of a copy deck.

Session takeouts:

Common mistakes in:

  1. Organising
  2. Describing
  3. Labelling

And practical exercises you can use to build content models for your site.

About Matt:

Matt Fenwick is a three-time CopyCon speaker and zero-time Olympic gold medalist.  He runs True North Content – a human-centred communications consultancy – where he wrangles large government website projects, untangles messy content, and generally aspires to make content suck less.

FEEL THE LOVE

Some words from previous attendees.

The best Conference I’ve ever been to.

An amazing day full of learning and laughter at the The Copywriting Conference in Sydney yesterday. It would have to be without question, the best Conference I’ve ever been to. Bring on #copycon2018!

Sandy Taylor

The place was right, the speakers were right, the content was right.

When you get a room full of insecure creatives and by the end of the day, they’ve all grown another foot in confidence, you know you’ve done something right.
The place was right, the speakers were right, the content was right, and, above all, the timing was right. It’s hard to believe that until CopyCon, there’d never been a copywriting conference in Australia. I learnt a lot, met terrific people – talented people – made new friends, and walked away with a smile. What more could you ask for?

Steve May

I’ve come away feeling energised and connected with a passionate, creative community of people

Fabulous speakers who not only educated, but entertained – and Kate’s vibrant, down-to-earth personality shining throughout the day. An all round vibe of shared relief to escape our copywriting hovels and be a part of something bigger. I’ve come away feeling energised and connected with a passionate, creative community of people – we copywriters are truly lucky.

Gemma Hawdon

CopyCon was by far the best professional development event I’ve ever been to.

Passionate, intelligent speakers; excellent networking opportunities and great goodie bags. Can’t wait for next year!

Simon Mitchell

THE FAQS

When and where is the conference?

The Copywriting Conference takes place on 9th Oct 2021 (with Mastermind the day before) in Manly, Sydney at the Novotel Sydney Manly Pacific. Located at 55 North Steyne, Manly, NSW 2095, Australia.

Do I need to be a professional copywriter to attend?

Not at all, this event is for all copywriters and it will suit anyone who works in marketing. It’s also great for those looking to break into copywriting as a career or those who would like to learn more about copywriting for their small business.

What is the schedule?

The Copywriting Conference offers short sharp training sessions with both skill and business focus. We also have three networking breaks, as well as an optional evening networking do with delicious nibbles.

The day before the conference we have a Mastermind, which is a smaller group event, with great access to speakers and round table discussions.

When will the topics and speakers be confirmed?

We’re hoping to have all speakers and details finalised by September 2021. When the schedule is announced, we reserve the right to vary advertised schedules to add, withdraw or substitute speakers and sessions where necessary.

Can I volunteer at the event?
Volunteer opportunities are offered to members of The Clever Copywriting Community only.
How do I become a sponsor?

Yes, complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access will be available to all event attendees.
Are meals provided at the conference?
  • At the Conference morning and afternoon tea breaks with refreshments will be provided as well as a buffet lunch.

If you have any specific questions about the venue you can visit Novotel Sydney Manly’s website, or contact them directly by:
Phone: +61 2 9977 7666 or Email: h5462@accor.com

Can I bring my baby or child to the event?

Small humans under the age of oneish are welcome to attend the event (must come with a parent, babies turning up solo will be turned away). We will have a dedicated MINI COPY BEASTS table at the back of the room. Obviously, if your baby is extra vocal, we ask that you respect other guests and leave the room to chill your small humans out. Sadly we don’t allow larger children at the event as we can’t provide childcare facilities. We do accept childish adults. A note on breastfeeding: We’re totally cool with breastfeeding in the conference space and will have some more private spaces available if you prefer.

Baby change tables are located in the accessible bathrooms (on the lobby floor, and the Level 1 conference floor).

Can I bring my service animal to the event?
You sure can.
What's the loo situation?

There are bathrooms in the lobby, as well as on the Level 1 conference floor. Both floors have a male, female and accessible bathroom. No bathrooms are physically in the conference room itself.

What do I need to bring with me?
We recommend bringing your laptop if you’re the kind of person who likes to type up notes. Pads and pens, water and mints will be provided. There may also be biscuits, and possibly crisps – but I’m not promising anything.
Can I claim the event as a taxable expense?
As this is a training event, it should be a deductible expense. However, we recommend you talk to your accountant about it. We’re words people not numbers people.
What's the dress code?

There’s no formal dress code, be scruffy, be smart, be yourself.

Are there student, government, group, nonprofit or concession discounts?
No discounts are available, but we’ve worked hard to keep the prices affordable.
How do I buy a ticket?

We’ll let those on the wait list know when tickets become available.

Does the ticket price include accommodation?
No.
Where can I stay nearby? Do you have any hotel discounts?

Novotel – 10% discount off their best unrestricted rates – must be booked over the phone and quote “Stay Tooned” to receive the discount.

Hotel Steyne – 10% off best flexible rate – must be booked over the phone and quote “CopyCon2021” to receive the discount.

Sebel Manly Beach – 17% discount – must be booked over the phone and quote “CopyCon2021” to receive the discount.
Is there parking nearby?

Parking at the Novotel itself costs $50 for the day.

There are several paid parking lots nearby with a max all-day cost of $45 within a 5 min walking distance, the closest being the Pacific Waves Carpark and Manly National (both located on Central Ave, Manly).

You can check out local parking on Parkopedia, make sure you enter the right date/times (weekend parking might be different to weekdays).

Where is the nearest train station?

The nearest train station is North Sydney station on Blue St, North Sydney 2060 which is approximately a 24-minute drive from the venue.

There are also bus stops located on Raglan St and Belgrave St that are only about a 5 minute walk from the venue.

What's the refund policy?

Tickets are sold on a strictly no refund basis.
But in the event that the Copywriting Conference is cancelled, you will be refunded the face value of the ticket.

If the event isn’t cancelled, but your home State goes into lockdown due to COVID19 and you’re unable to attend the event due to this reason, your ticket will be fully refunded and you’ll be given the option to purchase a video ticket.

If the event is postponed due to COVID19 we will give you the option to have a ticket for the next event or be fully refunded.

Please check our Terms and Conditions at the bottom of this page. The right is reserved to vary advertised schedules to add, withdraw or substitute speakers and sessions where necessary.

Do you have an affiliate program?
Nope.
How the heck do I get to Manly from the airport?

By car: If you’re driving, you can take the M1 from the airport which will take anywhere between 30-50 minutes on a Saturday morning.

By public transport:
If you’re using public transport, there is a train station connected to the airport (Domestic and international).
The train station is located directly under the airport terminals and bus stops are right outside.

Note: You may need to transfer a few times by bus to get all the way there, as the closest train station to the Novotel is still a 24 min drive away. I’d recommend looking up travel details prior to the day through Google Maps (typing in an address and hitting “Directions” and then “Public transport”)  or NSW Transport’s Trip Planner.

By taxi: There are taxi ranks at both airport terminals.

What COVID precautions are you taking?

We’ll be doing everything we can to make our event as COVID-preventative as possible.

Social distancing will be encouraged, as well as hand sanitiser available on the premises.

We recommend bringing a mask as a precaution for instances where you are unable to be 2 metres away from others.

If you’re feeling sick leading up to the event we strongly recommend you stay home instead.
