Hi, I’m Beth.
I’m a health writer and editor with a particular interest in translating complicated health and medical information into plain English for a non-specialist audience.
That could mean turning ‘unexpected mortality events’ into ‘sudden deaths’ or rephrasing an enquiry about ‘ambulatory ability’ to a question about walking easily. It means writing blogs and websites that patients can understand so they can take actions that protect their health.
After several years in health policy development and health services management in the UK, I shifted both country and mindset to work for health and disability not-for-profit groups in Australia. These included large peak bodies and small grassroots organisations. That background means I’m able to read research literature and retain its accuracy while putting it into plain English so that policymakers and health consumers can understand it and apply it to their situation.
After several years freelancing, I’m now an in-house copywriter at Splice Marketing, a Brisbane-based agency which specialises in compliant marketing for clients in the health sector. I write B2B and B2C websites, blogs, flyers, video scripts, press releases and anything else that needs doing!
